Jesus' love for His people is particular. He knows us completely and all the events in our lives. Mary & Martha came to Jesus because of His love for Lazarus, not because of Lazarus' love for Jesus. When we come to Christ, it is always on the basis of His love for us - we need to come in dependence and humbly. Jesus' goal is always the Father's glory and even in trials, we are to allow them to contribute to His glory. God is glorified in the eternal salvation of His people for which He is more concerned than the relief of suffering - divine delays are always good. Jesus' delays are always motivated by love and we should always be prepared to suffer for the sake of God's glory. If we endure suffering well, it can add to our sanctification - waiting increases patience and prayer. We are to look to the goal - faith in Christ leads to eternal life for those who trust Him. Our greatest fear should be sin, which is the enemy of the soul and should drive us to Christ. It is far better to consider death with Christ rather than life without Him.
