Speaker: Gavin Peacock
We are warned that not all who call themselves disciples are attached to Christ. The proving of true disciples is whether they continue with Christ even when they hear hard things. When Christ described Himself as the bread of life and that whoever eats this bread will live forever, many considered this a hard saying and grumbled at His words, considering them offensive. Many thought they could save themselves and failed to understand that it is the Spirit that gives life. We need to realise our helplessness before God and to realise that Christ's words are spirit and life - if we want Christ, we must go via the Cross. The issue is regeneration or heart exchange - the church is not a society for self-improvement but a fellowship for those who are born again. We are called to examine ourselves - we are not to follow the world's way, but Christ Himself. We can go to no-one else but Christ, who alone has the words of eternal life.
