Speaker: Gavin Peacock
All human hearts contain a God-made thirst which only God can satisfy. It was by divine appointment that the Samaritan woman found herself alone with Christ. Though she was of bad repute, a woman and a Samaritan, Christ was ready to meet with her to bring her to Himself. Jesus had deliberately gone to Samaria for this purpose - God had a hand on her life bringing her to this time. Though she was at first indifferent to Christ, He engaged with her and drew her attention to her spiritual need. Christ showed patience and mercy, showing the empty wells of this life and contrasting with the spiritual water of life. God is not interested in the externals of this life - those who worship Him need to do so in spirit and truth. We all need to drink from the living water that Christ provides. The woman left her old life to go and tell others of Jesus. In our thirsting, we are to come to Christ who thirsted on the cross that men might not thirst again.
