There are only two kinds of religion - man's work or faith and faith alone in Christ. Sometimes desperate faith at times of suffering leads us to a true and firmer faith. Knowing Christ, even if suffering remains is to be desired above mere relief from suffering. We are to love Christ, whatever our circumstances - true faith in Him meets our greatest need of salvation from sin. True faith honours Christ Himself, not His signs and wonders, as did the Galileans who flocked to see Him. The nobleman recognised Christ as a miracle-worker who might heal his sick son and begged Him to heal the boy. Many who looked on only had superficial faith, but care for our spiritual need is more important than our physical needs. The nobleman believed Jesus word and stepped out in faith where providence and promise were pointing. The nobleman found his son healed when he returned home, but the greater miracle was that he and his whole household turned to Christ. We are to value salvation above physical safety - Christ saves all who come to Him - we need to trust in Him.
