The writing of the Gospel of John was to emphasise both the deity and humanity of Christ and written that men might believe and have eternal life. the first chapter of the Gospel acts as a prologue or introduction of the following chapters, consisting of the book of signs, the book of glory and an epilogue. Jesus is described as the Word of God who existed from the beginning, the full expression of God to man. All scripture is bound up in who Christ is and it is only through knowing Him truly that we can come to know God. As the Word, Christ was pre-existent (before creation), co-existent with the Father and the Holy Spirit and self-existent (not depending on any other) and fully God. WE are to believe in Christ, remembering that He came to save sinners through His sacrifice on the cross. If we are believers, we are also to witness to Him and Worship Him as our Lord and God.
