Speaker: Gavin Peacock

In the first chapter of John, there are the testimonies of some who witnessed to Jesus. John the Baptist was a popular preacher who announced the imminent arrival of the Messiah - his was a voice, like an arrow, pointing to Jesus. John's testimony pointed to the One through whom we are born again - becoming a Christian is an act of God and not of man. Andrew was one of John's disciples who heard his testimony and went to follow Jesus. He witnessed to his brother, Simon-Peter, telling him, 'we have found the Messiah'. Simon himself became a powerful, if unlikely, witness to Christ - we should not discriminate in our testimony. Philip was called by Jesus to follow Him, leading to a lifetime commitment to Christ. He proclaimed to Nathanael that they had found Him who was the fulfilment of the OT law and prophecies. Christ died in accordance with the scriptures and, like Philip, we should not be afraid to use them in our witness. Nathanael proclaimed Jesus as the Son of God after Philip had urged him to come and see for himself. Like him, our understanding grows as we come to Christ Who is the ladder from earth to heaven. Do you believe?
