Rightly Interpreting God's Word

• Jan 8, 2014

Speaker: Don Lambert

There are many in our churches today that have lost sight of what it really means to reverence the Word of God, and this is often seen in the loose standards of interpretation that have been gaining acceptance over the years. Today on the Sanctified by Truth broadcast we’ll be discussing this issue right in the context that the Apostle Peter addressed it in II Peter 1 beginning with verse 19. Many have come to equate Christian liberty with the notion that each of us can interpret the Scriptures however we see best as long as we mean well. But this is not the case as we will see shortly. If any of us wrote a letter that we considered important, we would expect the readers to seek to interpret it for how we meant it and not to feel free to change our intended meaning in any way. This had been happening in the early Church and Peter was writing to a group of Christians to set them on the right course and warn them of the false teachers who were misusing the Scripture. Understanding the importance of this, please listen carefully as we begin.
