As believers, our first relationship is with Christ. Marriage reflects that relationship as a picture of the gospel and gospel propagation. We are to have Spirit-filled lives both at church and at home, remembering the importance of parents and children in the family of God for spiritual growth and propagation. Children are commanded to obey their parents and parents should expect obedience from them. Such respect for authority helps to propagate respect for God in the world. Disobedient children leads to damaged society while the gospel changes people for the good of society. Fathers have the responsibility to bring up their children in the training and admonition of the Lord with patience and love, without being negative or angry or under-disciplining. Children also need to be instructed that they are sinners requiring a Saviour and to take up the Cross themselves for God's glory. Godly homes, marriages and children are a bastion against the devil and his works.
