Paul writes a song of praise to God, punctuated by the glories of the electing work of the Father, the redeeming work of the Son and the enlivening work of the Holy Spirit - all fuel for the Christian life. These should lead us to be so taken up by God that it would take out the evil. As Christ is exalted, Christians become stronger and sin is suffocated. This leads to the Father's blessing - being spoken well of by Him; the Father's choosing - reminding us that we were chosen in Christ; the Father's purpose - that we should be holy and blameless before Him. Adoption is God's supreme blessing to sinners and the Fatherhood of God a stabilising reality - these things to be reflected in individual believers and the church.
