Jesus is building His church and watches over it throughout all things. The heart of the church needs to be Christ Himself - we need to love Him with all our hearts. Churches decline when Christ is no longer at the centre. The Ephesian church had grown cold in its love and service for Christ. Christ commended the church for its faith and service in the past, but condemned it because it had abandoned the love that it had at first. Christ's exhortation is to remember from where they had fallen, to repent and to return to the work they did at first. This is both a warning and encouragement for us to go on serving Christ and keeping Him at the centre of our life as a church and as individuals.
