Speaker: Gavin Peacock

It is easy to disgrace the name of Christ by outbursts of impatience. Christian patience is waiting under suffering and looking to the purpose of God. Christian patience is described as vital and beautiful but difficult to gain. To grow in patience, we should keep Christ's coming in view with our eyes fixed on Him - keeping the end in view is our motivation to be patient. Those who are found trusting in Christ will enjoy the glory of heaven, whilst unbelievers will face the prospect of eternal condemnation. Patience precludes grumbling which is really dissatisfaction with God. There are many examples of suffering believers in the scriptures who patiently spoke in the name of the Lord despite opposition. When we undergo suffering, we should remember that we are not alone - the same suffering has been experienced by believers throughout the world. Patience, tempered with mercy, is evidence of Christian faith. We should see the purpose of the Lord in suffering which points us to Jesus. As we look to Christ, our personal stability and church unity will grow and bear witness before the watching world.
