Through Christ, We Are More than Conquerors
Speaker: Adam Meisberger
If you are a child of God, God’s love for you as His child is greater than you can possibly imagine. And He is such a great and awesome Father. He is stronger and more powerful than anyone else or any other thing. So, if we are in Christ—God is for us. And since Christ has been given all that is good from the Father—is there anyone or anything in all the physical world or spiritual world greater or more powerful than Jesus Christ Himself and who is able to overcome Him? None. No one. Nothing. Paul put it like this, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?” (Romans 8:35). In saying this, Paul is affirming that yes, the Christian will indeed go through trouble, hardship, persecution, experience great hunger, go without proper clothing, have to go through dangers, and even may have face the sword of execution. But even—even if the worst of things happens to us in this world—is any of these things going to take away Jesus’ love for us as God’s children? Can anything then keep us from entering God’s Kingdom? Can anything steal us away from God?
I’ll just let the apostle Paul answer these questions for us: “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:37-39).
We, as God’s children are “more than conquerors.” The word is hypernikaō. This word carries the idea of being completely and overwhelmingly victorious. This is a battle that cannot even be considered a battle. The victory is so easy and certain. Light overcoming darkness which just flees when the light shows up. Jesus, in the book of Revelation, defeats the enemy with His very breath. The battle of Armageddon will, in all truth, not even be a battle—because when Jesus shows up—the war is just over—He wins, its done.
And who lives in us as children of God? Jesus Christ! He is in us! Therefore, since we have the greatest, the most powerful of beings living in us—we are truly hypernikaō, more than conquerors through Christ! Do you know the tremendous power of Jesus Christ living in you? You have more power in you than any power in all the world. More powerful than a nuclear bomb, more powerful than the greatest of earthly kings. You have Christ living in you. You are more than a conqueror through Christ. Nothing can stop Christ in you and working in you. Not even the most terrifying of evils, not any fallen angel, not any power (even the powers of Satan) can separate you from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!
Church, brothers and sister in Christ—praise God, we have Jesus the Messiah for us! We know Him and He knows us. And He is greater and more powerful than anyone or anything past, present or future. He has more authority than any power in all of the earth and in all of the heavenly realm—He is greater and more powerful than any other power in heaven or hell—and we are His, we belong to Him, we are children of God because of Him. We are in Christ and we are in His power. We have such protection in us and around us greater than we can ever imagine. And it is eternal! Praise His Holy Name.
