We are to love like our Father loves. None of us would have loved God if He had not loved us first. I then must also expect to initiate love with others. I have to be in situations of people not loving me if I am to love like God loves! God will put us in lonely, let-down-by-people situations. This is good training ground to rely more upon His love. We don't need to be loved by people - we are loved by God!! And love of God prompts keeping His commands which benefits everyone, even those who do not appreciate it and separate from us because of it.
