Speaker: Gavin Peacock

Luke's purpose in writing his gospel was that we might have certainty about God sending His Son into the world for the salvation of men. He continued his account in the book of Acts, recounting the emergence and explosive growth of the early Christian church. It is a reminder of God's overruling control of human history - from the life of Mary to our own, individual lives. God is gracious to His people - Mary received grace, not because she was good, but because God is good, rejoicing in God her Saviour. We are not to forget that as recipients of God's grace, we have received favour from God. Though we face burdens and problems as Christians, we can remember that God is with us. God is always faithful to His people and what He promises, He will always do. He does the impossible for His people - whilst man is unable to save himself by his own strength or intellect, God is able to do so, even if we cannot understand how. Christ's conception and birth to a virgin shows this in reality and is central to the Christian faith. God is tender in mercy with His people - following God's word and plan is a privilege for believers for which we should praise Him
