Speaker: Gavin Peacock

The events of Christ's life, including His death and resurrection are recorded so that we may believe. When Mary and the other disciples came to the tomb where Jesus had been laid, they found it empty. John and Peter entered the tomb and found the grave clothes where Christ had been laid, as though they still contained him - a contrast with Lazarus who had to be unbound when he was raised. The risen Christ's new body was both spiritual and physical, 'much solider' - a reminder of our new bodies when we are raised to be like Him. John saw the evidence of the resurrection and believed although not fully understanding the necessity of it - the resurrection proves His sacrifice is sufficient. For Mary, as she stood weeping outside the tomb, Christ came in resurrection power and called her by name, implying a personal and intimate relationship and that she was valued by Him. If we know Him, we should realise that our names are graven in His hands. The power of the resurrection brings hope for a dying world - the Lord has patience with His disciples. There is eternal life for those who truly believe. The resurrection is Good News for the whole world.
