The Book of Malachi (TAKE HEED OF HAVING A TREACHEROUS SPIRIT)
Speaker: Jonathan VandenHurk
"We come now to the third conversation between God and His people, who keep talking back sarcastically. God is dealing with their spirit, and five times in these seven verses, He speaks about how they have been dealing “treacherously,” mainly in three areas of life- their social, spiritual, and marital relationships. Nehemiah 13 gives us more context of the historical context of how they married unbelievers and allowed idolatry in their homes. But instead of fixing the problem, they were instead bringing in widespread divorce for no good reason, betraying their covenants. When God speaks about not being able to accept their worship, they petulantly ask, “Wherefore?” or “Why?”, showing they are denying their toxic combination of idolatry and divorce, or at least not taking it seriously.
Join your heart in song, “A Shelter in the Time of Storm”; “Near the Cross”; “Have Thine Own Way, Lord!”"
