Godly Speech

Speaker: Tyler Smith

I believe my mission here or at least my main mission is to reach the men of this world. To teach the way that seems to have been forgotten. As the world continues to turn it seems as if the qualities of what it means to be a man have been forgotten, lost, or even ignored. As men, we have a responsibility to set the example, to lead, and to teach others. For some people this might mean your peers, for others this may mean your wife and children, most certainly our sons. After all, they will be the ones to grow up and guide/teach the next generation. I want to be the man that I would want my son to be. There is no age limit on being old enough to be an example. The apostle Paul wrote to his disciple Timothy about this matter in 1 Timothy 4:12 “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” Now, I take this one to heart being that I am still young but in a position of leadership and put in a place to which I set an example of conduct. The point I really get at with this is that not only are the elders the ones to set the example but also the youth. Now most of you don’t have this problem (ha-ha). Now there are many principles that go along with being a “godly man” but today will just be about speech. Jesus spoke about the seriousness of our words in Matthew 12:34-37 “You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. 35 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. 36 But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. 37 For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” Now the phrase “by your words you will be acquitted I look at Romans 10:9 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
