Upbeat or Beat Up - Part 3
Speaker: Kenny Burns
We live in a world filled with catastrophes and calamities, with disasters and discouragement, and with problems and perplexities. As a result, it is easy to become distressed and depressed. It is easy to develop an attitude of pessimism rather than an attitude of optimism. However, we serve a God who is able to pull blessings out of our burdens and draw gladness out of our sadness. He most often does so by reminding us of His promises.
Of all God’s promises, the one He inspired Paul to write in the eighth chapter of the Book of Romans is, without a doubt, the most heart-warming. It encapsulates all His other promises into one powerful statement: “…we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NIV).
Paul indicated that both blessings and problems should be viewed as a tool in the hand of God that He will use to do something “good” for us! Let’s read again what Paul wrote, “…we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28, NIV). Embracing that view of both the negative and positive events in life will create a spirit of optimism in every believer.
