How to be Delivered from Depression
Speaker: Kenny Burns
We are all depressed at times. We get down in the dumps and think that we will never be able to get on track again. Depression is a feeling of acute hopelessness. Even King David, the man after God’s own heart, struggled at one point with obvious depression, and in the midst of it he wrote, “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” (Psalm 42:5, NIV). That definitely sounds like a depressed man to me—a downcast soul, a disturbed soul, a hopeless soul in need of hope!
God’s Word is realistic and straightforward about depression occurring even in the life of godly people. In addition to King David, the Bible records the depressive symptoms of such men as: Job, Moses, Elijah, and Jeremiah.
