Revelation: 42 - A New Heaven, a New Earth, & the New Jerusalem
Speaker: Kenny Burns
Revelation chapter 21 begins the third and final major section of the Book. In each section Jesus is revealed in one of the various roles He will play in the unfolding drama of human history:
• Section #1—Jesus, the Lord of the churches (Revelation 1:1 to 3:22).
• Section #2—Jesus, the Lion over the nations (Revelation 4:1 to 20:15).
• Section #3—Jesus, the Lamb among the believers (Revelation 21:1 to 22:21).
After seeing the horrendous vision of unbelievers being judged before ‘The Great White Throne’ and then thrown into the ‘Lake of Fire’ at the end of chapter 20, John saw a wonderful vision depicting the eternal residence of believers on ‘a new earth’ surrounded by a ‘new heaven’ and Jesus ruling over them from His capital city, ‘the New Jerusalem.’ John wrote, “Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” (Revelation 21:1-2, NIV).
