Who is Jesus? - Part Four

• Jan 10, 2021

Speaker: Kenny Burns

This is the fourth sermon in a sermon series designed to answer the question, “Who is Jesus?” That is one of the most profound questions that can ever be asked or answered! Last week we learned that He was the Son of God—‘The Supernatural Son of God,’ ‘The Sinless Son of God,’ ‘The Sacrificial Son of God,’ ‘The Surviving Son of God,’ and finally ‘The Saving Son of God!’ Today’s sermon will continue to answer the question, “Who is Jesus?” Jesus hinted at the importance of this question when He asked His disciples, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” (Matthew 16:13b, NKJV). Many people in our day, even some in the church, grapple with the answer to the question, “Who is Jesus?” Many believe Christ to be a savior, but not THE Savior. They put Jesus in the same class with Mohammed, Buddha, or Confucius. However, Jesus made a claim about Himself that, if true, puts Him in an exclusive category with no others! He said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, NIV). Since He made a statement like, He leaves us with only three possibilities when answering the question, “Who is Jesus?” He is either a liar, a lunatic, or Lord! If He knew the statement wasn’t true and He made it anyway, He is a liar. If the statement isn’t true but He thought it was, He is a lunatic. However, if the statement is true, then He is Lord! Someday every member of the human race will realize that possibility #3 is the correct one: “He is Lord!” The ancient apostle Paul wrote, “God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11, NKJV). There are three reasons to believe that Jesus is Who He says He is—'The Witness of the Prophets,’ ‘The Witness of the Apostles,’ and ‘The Witness of God.’
