The Book of Exodus contains the remarkable story of God bringing the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt into freedom in the Promised Land. God declared He would do exactly that when He said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them’” (Exodus 6:6a, NIV). By studying this incredible story of the Israelites’ journey from slavery to freedom, we can learn several practical lessons about the believer’s journey from spiritual slavery to freedom in Christ. We know that God wants His people to experience freedom, because He has given us a whole Book full of truth that is designed to set us free from spiritual enslavement. Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32, NIV). So let’s learn some lessons from Israel’s journey from slavery to freedom.
