I’ve noticed that far too many believers harbor the “fear of death” in their hearts. That is indeed unfortunate because according to Scripture, the devil uses the “fear of death” to enslave people. The author of the Book of Hebrews explained this fact when he wrote, “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might… free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death” (Hebrews 2:14a…15, NIV). Did you get that? Many of God’s people are “held in slavery [to Satan] by their fear of death.” As tragic as it is, some believers remain enslaved to the Devil by their fear of death “all their lives.” The author of Hebrews wrote, “He too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might…free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death” (Hebrews 2:14b…15, NIV). Obviously, the church should be teaching people how they can be set free from satanic slavery by conquering “their fear of death.” In order to do so, we must teach believers some basic “truth” about what happens to a believer when he/she dies. Knowing the “truth” is essential. Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32, NIV). So let’s examine some “truth” about what happens to believers when they die.
