The Offerings of Leviticus (The Passover Lamb Sacrifice)
Speaker: Jonathan VandenHurk
Today is Mothering Sunday! It is also the next in our series on the Old Testament sacrifices. Today we will look at the Passover sacrifice from Leviticus 23 and Exodus 12. In Exodus, imagine the worry of every mother as a plague of death was coming upon every firstborn of the land! No family would be excluded in the judgement from the house of Pharaoh to the lowest slave (and even the cattle). God planned to spare the Israelites' firstborns using the blood of a lamb. If the blood of a lamb was sprinkled on the doorpost and lintels of the house, God would see the blood and "pass over" that house. Ever since, Jewish parents have reminded their children about Passover every year for almost 3,500 years! They had won their freedom from slavery that night! In order to be free from your sin and from death, you need a Lamb! The details of Passover point to Christ, the ultimate Passover Lamb. There is a Lamb and He is the only Lamb that can truly be your Passover. If you reject Him, there is now no other sacrifice. At the end sing with us, "O Lamb of God, I come, I come."
