Acts 2 reminds us that God builds His church by His Word. God calls and saves people to be part of His family - the Church. The Church is God's plan, not His plan B. The result of salvation in these new believers' lives was a change of devotion. They were now devoted to: 1. the apostles’ teaching - The Church delights in the continued study of God’s Word. 2. fellowship - Devotion to Jesus is what defines Christian fellowship. 3. breaking of bread - "Baptism illustrates our death with Christ; the breaking of bread illustrates His death for us." (John Phillips) 4. prayer - The early Christians prayed because they were convinced God heard them. This early church was living out Jesus’ high priestly prayer in John 17:20-21: "...that they may all be one...so that the world may believe that you have sent me." A Spirit-filled church demonstrates Christ to the world.
