When tough decisions need to be made, consider prayer [v.14] and Scripture [v.16]. When things were unsettling, Peter and the disciples go to the Word of God, not feelings or opinions. They took what they knew from the Word of God and acted in light of the advancement of the Gospel. For the disciples in Acts 1 and for us today, the primary place for discovering the will of God is in the pages of Scripture. Christians ought to give priority to the clearly revealed will of God found in the Bible. Now, the Holy Spirit is the Counselor who helps God’s people make wise decisions.
