Sermon Title: “Personal Faith”
Sermon Text: John 4:42
In John 4:42, the Samaritans said that they believed the woman’s testimony, but having heard Jesus for themselves, they believed even more that Jesus is the Savior of the world. Give explanation below of why personally hearing Jesus speak and teach brought about this certainty of belief.
In the sermon the idea was presented that true and correct knowledge about Jesus is necessary for real faith. Why is this true, and list some truths about the person and saving work of Jesus that an individual must know to have saving faith.
Another element of saving faith is conviction based on persuasion. Romans 10:9 says that the confession of conversion is first based on the conviction in the heart. What convictions about Jesus and His saving work must be in the heart before outward conversion will be seen? Discuss this below.
Saving faith also includes personal trust based on true knowledge of Christ and the conviction of the heart. The truth about Christ and His saving work on the cross must be connected to a person’s personal life for true saving faith to exist. How does the presentation of Abraham’s faith in Romans 4:20-21 give an example of this faith?
Explain why just knowing the truth about Jesus, and even being convinced of the truth, is not enough. Why must personal trust be applied before real saving faith exists in the life? Explain below.
Will you commit your heart and life to Jesus Christ? Are you trusting in Him as your personal Savior and Lord? In the space below, express your faith in Jesus Christ.
