This event in the life of Jesus illustrates well the manifestation of awakened affections in spiritual revival. In revival, the Holy Spirit not only saves lost people, but the Spirit also awakens Christians by enlivening our affections for Christ and the things of Christ. This woman is a good example of enlivened holy affections. She felt deeply her remorse concerning her sin, she felt deeply her love and gratitude for Jesus, and she was so moved in heart that she came to make a great personal and financial sacrifice for Jesus, even though it meant experiencing ridicule and scorn. She did not care what others would say about her; she only knew that she was forgiven, and she wanted to express her love and thankfulness to Jesus.
