Philemon
Speaker: Emma Osborne
Paul writes to Philemon and instructs him to receive Onesimus, a man who has run away from enslavement in Philemon's household, as a beloved brother. Using Sarah Ruden's Paul Among The People, Emma unpacks some of the social context to fatherhood, brotherhood and enslavement in Greco-Roman households in order to explore what this radical instruction might have meant. She argues that Paul's letter represents an act of holy imagination of justice and equality, which will require courage and faith to bring into reality.
