“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12 ESV Textual Ideas: In a small verse we have a magnificently broad and overarching description of the entire life experience of the believer in a fallen dimension developing and becoming blessed with all eternal joy through God’s salvation in Christ. Here we see: (1) The state of human blessing comes from God through Christ experienced in a life that is tested in this world; (2) The test for the believer does not destroy him or fundamentally damage him, but is the backdrop by which and in which the true life of Christ shines forth in life experience; and (3) This is because of God’s promise, which He makes to His people, who are characterized truly by a genuine love for God.
