"When Last is First"
Speaker: Pastor Ziemann
(Note-Children's Message and Sermon from the 9:00 Sunday Service.)
Jesus is giving those disciples a lesson in humility. He was showing what it meant to be a servant. The disciples were nowhere near this attitude. In fact, did you catch what they were arguing about? Right after Jesus predicts His death and resurrection, they are arguing about greatness. Selfless, humble service doesn’t come easy for us. But for Jesus, it’s a different story. This is why He came. Matthew 20 says: whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:27b-28) And that is how it is possible for each of us to finish our race – but not just finish – but to go from last to first. And know this, there will be a celebration, with angels, and archangels, and all the saints who have gone before.
