[Begins with Children's Message.] Sin turns and distorts God’s creation and his creatures. Theologians call this homo incurvatus in se, “man turned in on himself.” In other words, sin turns us away from considering the interests of other people and toward our own interests and desires—as a body curved inward, in the fetal position. Someone must come from outside of ourselves to save us from this sin, to stretch us back out and restore us. “So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood” (Heb. 13:12).
