Nicodemus comes at night making him the original “Nick at Night.” Nicodemus however, though “the teacher of Israel,” shows that he cannot comprehend what Jesus taught him – that is the Spirit’s miraculous work of new birth through water and spirit. Truly, Nicodemus is not alone. Who can understand the wonder of it all? Who can fully comprehend the miracle of salvation? Who can even accept idea that Jesus was lifted up on the cross to save us all? This is God’s promise, though, that he who believes will not perish but will have eternal life.
