Andy Constable looks at our first of three parables, usually called the Parable of the Sower, but perhaps more helpfully describes as the Parable of the Soils. There may be four kinds of soil described, but they correspond to only two types of hearers of the word of God: those who hear and respond, and those who don't. We often think this parable only covers those who don't yet know Jesus but even as followers, we need to look at the status of our own heart.
