To deep for words
What do you do when you don’t have the words?
In this sermon, Paul Lee takes us into one of the most tender and comforting passages in Scripture, Romans 8, and explores what happens when life leaves us speechless. Those moments of awe, grief, fear, joy, or exhaustion where prayer feels out of reach and language simply runs out.
With honesty, humour, and deep pastoral insight, Paul reflects on:
Moments that leave us truly speechless, from God’s beautiful nature, like the Grand Canyon, to the hardest phone calls of life
The “in-between” space of faith: already redeemed, but not yet fully restored
What Paul means, in Romans, when he says “the Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words”
Why not knowing what to pray is not a failure of faith, but part of being human
How God meets us in silence, weakness, and longing
The profound truth that when we cannot pray, God prays for us
This sermon reminds us that prayer is not a performance. It’s a relationship. And sometimes faith looks like simply showing up, and sometimes with a sigh, a tear, or quiet presence, trusting that the Spirit is already at work.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, numb, overwhelmed, or unable to put words to what’s happening inside you, this message is for you.
Deep cries out to deep.
