Advent Week 3: Joy
Speaker: Liesl Carstens
During the four weeks of Advent, we invite you and your family to join us in exploring the true meaning of Christmas. Each week, we’ll focus on one of the four Advent themes by means of a reflection designed to bring you and your loved ones closer to God and to one another. Each week's reflection is accompanied by a scripture and a challenge that you can do together as a family. These reflections will help you prepare your hearts for the celebration of Jesus’ birth and remind you of the incredible gift of His presence in our lives.
What is Advent?
Advent is a special time when we remember and celebrate the birth of Jesus, our Saviour, and look forward to His return. The word "Advent" comes from a Latin word that means "coming" or "arrival." Advent starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas and is a season to help us stay focused on Jesus and what His birth means for us.
Advent is a wonderful way to focus on the true meaning of Christmas, spending time with family and growing closer to Jesus.
The four weeks of Advent centre around these themes:
Hope: The first week reminds us of the hope people had as they waited for Jesus to come.
Peace: The second week reminds us of the peace and love that Jesus brings to our hearts and to the world.
Joy: The third week is all about celebrating the joy of Jesus’ arrival, just like the angels did when they announced His birth.
Love: In week four, we celebrate love. Love is why Jesus came to earth to live with us and to be a sacrifice for our salvation.
