Celebrate the King Part IV

In the second chapter of Luke, an angel appears to the shepherds who were watching over their flocks by night. And Luke describes how the sudden arrival of a heavenly being…how this supernatural event…simply terrified the shepherds; and how immediately the angel comforts the men by saying: "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. So the first thing the angel says…as these shepherds cowered in their fields is: don’t be afraid. The angel goes: “Fear not…because I’ve got such good news for you…today a savior’s been born…” Here’s the thing: some people hear that…and they go “okay…that really doesn’t sound that great though…” And you know….I remember as a young man…before I knew Christ…I remember going to church on Christmas Eve and hearing about “a savior” but the truth is…I really didn’t really know…what the significance of a savior was….or why…it was such great news. And I think if you go up to the average person on the street and go “I’ve got the greatest news….a savior was born…” They’d be like: “So?” They wouldn’t be excited at all…And I believe…the reason why most people don’t get excited about a savior being born…is that most people don’t even recognize their need to be saved. Most people walk around completely oblivious to the fact…that they even need a savior. So in today’s message, we’re going to explore what the Bible says about that age old question: why do I even need savior?
