Speaker: Pastor Seth Powers
Jesus On Trial Before the Religious Leaders
Matthew 26:57-68
Introduction
1. Jesus’ Innocence Before His Accusers. 57-60a.
2. Jesus’ Silence Before His Accusers. 60b-63a.
3. Jesus’ Confession Before the Religious Leaders. 63b-64.
4. Jesus’ Condemnation by the Sanhedrin. 65-66.
5. Jesus’ Suffering At the Hands of the Sanhedrin. 67-68.
6. Living the Story.
a. Learn to Suffer from Jesus.
John 16:33, 1 Peter 2:20b-24
Practice: Read over 1 Peter 2:20b-24 and ask Jesus to help you to learn to suffer as he did. Invite him to be your teacher in your suffering.
b. Hope in Jesus
Daniel 7:13-14
Practice: think about how the schemes of these men were so impactful that they were able to silence Jesus for only two days. For two days it looked like evil had won the day, but it didn’t and it won’t. Jesus is the conquering king who will bring ultimate justice in the end.
c. Jesus is your present help
Practice: Meditate on our memory verses in Matthew 28:16-20, noting two things:
“All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth.”
“And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Practice: when you rise and when you drive and when you start to sleep, acknowledge that Jesus is with you.
Ephesians 1:17-23
