Theme: Within this text we see that like the young man in our story we all have the tendency to hold on to some things too tightly. And unfortunately, each of us have the potential of letting that one thing grow in importance to such an extent that it overshadows our allegiance to God. Such things can actually become a barrier between us and God. It can hinder or interfere with our relationship, our spiritual walk. Perhaps God is telling us that we should let go of some things in our lives that are holding us back from a deeper relationship with Jesus.
