Gathered to go
As we step into a new year, we begin a new series by asking a simple but important question: What does it actually mean to be the church?
In this week’s sermon, we go right back to the beginning, to Abraham, and trace the story of a God who calls ordinary, flawed, often confused people by sheer grace. A God who blesses, not because people deserve it, but because He is good. And a God whose blessing is never meant to stop with us, but to flow through us to the world.
From Genesis 12 to the global church today, this message reminds us that we are part of a long, ancient family, connected by faith, not perfection. We are grafted into a promise that began thousands of years ago: “I will bless you, and you will be a blessing.”
This sermon explores:
What it means to belong to the people of God
Why the church exists and what drives us
The danger of holding onto blessing instead of releasing it
How grace, not worthiness, has always been the starting point
Why we gather, and why we’re sent
As we head into 2026, this is an invitation to remember who we are, whose we are, and why we’re here. We are not blessed just to be blessed, but to be a blessing to others in our homes, our work, our city, and beyond.
