In Search of Your Spiritual Gifts
Mark shares some tips and stories of how to discern your spiritual gifts - He starts by explaining that time is what we all have.
1. Experiment. Start by trying all sorts of service in the church.
2. Assess the results of your experiments to love.
3. What gift/service are you passionate about and what gift gives you joy?
4. Ask your leaders for their honest assessment. After a reasonable period of attempting a particular spiritual gift it will become apparent to your leadership that either you are growing in that gift or you are not. Be open to receiving their honest assessment.
5. Hang around those in the church who have the spiritual gift you feel called to.
6. Read good books about the gift you want to try.
7. Take Risks with the gift. Spiritual gifts come by faith and faith is expressed by taking risks with the gift. What we are really talking about is not letting your pride and fear of looking foolish stand in the way of trying out the gift you desire. Pride is always your enemy and never more so than when you risk failure. Failure is not as destructive as not trying.
8. Commit to your local church unconditionally. Without a radical commitment to your local church inconvenience will end up making most of your ministry choices for you
9. Persevere. Genuine ministry has a “courting”, “honeymoon”, “marriage”, and “let’s go for counseling” stage.
