2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us that old things passed away and new things have come; so what passed away and what is new? A very simple answer is: Everything. Everything we were is gone and all that we are is new. We have been placed by god on a potter's wheel to be remade in the image of Christ (Romans 8:28-30).
