MERRY/MARY CHRISTMAS!!!

• Dec 21, 2008

Speaker: Jeffry A Tunnell

This weekend is the weekend before Christmas. Traditionally we use the term “Merry Christmas” to great people during the holidays. Of course there is a minority, yes that's right a MINORITY that wishes to take out the term “Merry Christmas” and replace it with the term “Happy Holidays” because of the religious connotations behind it. Though this is ridiculous to most of us it nevertheless remains that these activists do more to change the term than we do to keep it. Those of us apposed to this new term try to make a difference by not shopping at stores that adopt this concept. And it works. Sometimes, however, we get so involved with this hustle and bustle of the holidays, and the political correctness that is moving in with such force, that we tend to forget to take time to reflect on the magnificence and significance of the season. This is our Savior. This is our God. Incarnate! What gifts do we have to bring Him this year? Do you ever ponder the scenes of the nativity? How about what Mary must have been going through: being someone around 12-16 years old. Growing up in economical crises and turmoil. Unable to control her economy. Unable to change her circumstances. Yet she rejoiced because she new that God was not out of control. She was a young lady who was obviously well versed in the scriptures because in the moment of overwhelming joy, she sings the Song of Mary in Luke2:46-55, which reflects the song that Hannah sang in 1Samuel 2:1-10. If you get a chance this Christmas season we strongly recommend you taking the time to watch the movie “The Nativity Story” with out any interruptions so that perhaps you get a different view of what is more than just a story.
