Many times God's warnings are not that He's going to bring judgement, but rather to make us realize that we need to repent. The Lord told Jonah to give Nineveh a warning that they will be destroyed in 40 days, yet when Nineveh repented, that judgement was lifted. Did Jonah not hear from the Lord? Yes he sure did, but the prophecy changed because the people turned from their wicked ways.
