The story of blind Bartimaeus is refreshing. Often times it is preached for the sake of soul winning. To show sinners that Christ is filled with love, mercy, compassion, and power. He can forgive sins and give physical and spiritual sight. But in tonight's message the emphasis will not be on blind Bartimaeus but rather on the unnamed group of people who rebuked Bartimaeus for calling upon Jesus. No doubt those who were apart of that group were none other than the disciples. As we shall see, though they were followers of Christ they themselves stood in need of having their spiritual eyes opened. As Bartimaeus requested, "Rabbi, I want to see." This too should have been the plea of the disciples.
